Couple of bits of admin for you plus a general round-up of what's happening on the scene at the moment...
Firstly, you may or may not have noticed that I'm not really posting much on this blog any more, due mainly to time constraints, but I still frequently post news and links to upcoming shows on the Leicester Comedy Scene facebook page which now has almost 500 likes - I shall shortly be going crazy with power no doubt...

Secondly I must draw your attention to Leicester Fridge, which I have set up along with comedy pals Daniel Nicholas and Dave Deverick on behalf of Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival. The idea behind the Fridge is to showcase local comedy during the festival, so we're putting on a special Leicester Fridge preview show in January to give you a taster of what our local funnypersons have cooked up for their festival shows, plus 3 showcase events in the first week of the festival, which aim to promote the local scene in general. So, onto the round-up. There are several fairly big-name shows heading this way over the next couple of months. The biggest of these names are, as usual, heading for De Montfort Hall for maximum ticket revenue, with the cavernous venue playing host to affable, Powerpoint-wielding storyteller Dave Gorman tomorrow (13th November), master of absurd tangents Ross Noble on Thursday 20th November and artistic Mighty Boosh manchild Noel Fielding on Tuesday 25th November. Award-winning purveyor of finest nonsense Tony Law brings his latest show 'Enter the Tonezone' to The Y on Friday 28th November - get your tickets here. And next month at the same venue, promoters Bottle Rocket Comedy Club present their Christmas Special featuring Pete Firman, Joel Dommett, Andrew Bird and Tom Toal on Saturday 13th December. The Cookie continue to bring quality comedy acts to town, starting with clown-haired satirist Andy Zaltzman on Saturday 15th November, followed by a triple bill of Charlie Baker, Angela Barnes and Andrew Ryan on Saturday 22nd November. Tickets for both shows can be yours here. And if you haven't already joined their mailing list, make sure you sign up because they often send out great ticket offers and occasionally put on the odd secret show for subscribers only.

The Exchange Comedy Club returns on 20 November with champion waffler and alternative hero Pat Cahill, and support from Will Mars, Omar Hamdi, Samantha Baines and Ben Briggs. Get your tickets here.

| "Rip-roaring" - 2Funy Comedy |
Now, if you're thinking that there are far too many white, male comedians on the above bills (and who could blame you!), fear not. Curve theatre plays host to 2Funy Comedy, with what they promise will be a night of "rip-roaring comedy" on 29 November, featuring Kane Brown, Will-E, Glenda Jaxson and Dane Baptiste. And if it's specifically funny women you're after, you're in luck. The irrepressible Maureen Younger hosts the next MY Comedy night at the Belmont Hotel on January 22nd, featuring everyone's favourite headlining housewife Mrs Barbara Nice (played by Phoenix Nights' Janice Connolly). She will be performing her hit Edinburgh show 'Squirrel Proof' for your delectation, and you can find out more here.
There's also a strong line-up of funny ladies coming up at The Criterion, in the second outing for local hero Leanne Mckie's new venture K.A.R.E.N. A mix of stand-up, off-the-wall character acts and physical comedy, the first K.A.R.E.N. was a highly memorable breath of fresh air on the local scene, so head along for the Christmas special on Tuesday 16th December, hosted by Lindsey Warnes-Carroll as Shirley Rentokill. And whilst we're on the theme of quality local comedy, let's not forget the other regular nights that offer the best up and coming comics from Leicester and beyond. Hosted with charm by Irishman Dave McGuckin, Comedy and Cocktails is still going strong, every first Tuesday of the month at Manhattan 34 - this night offers a warm atmosphere, consistently funny and varied line-ups, and with entry for only a pound it's practically free! The next one's on Tuesday 2nd December - go on, visit the facebook page. Also, the similarly named Guinness and Giggles also offers a mix of primarily new, Midlands-based acts, except it's free entry and takes place in the somewhat earthier surroundings of Duffy's Bar. The night is hosted by possibly the busiest comedian on the Midlands circuit right now, the wonderful Lucy Thompson. Check facebook to see when the next one's on!
